Description
The interprovincial bridge linking Pointe-à-la-Croix to Campbellton, New Brunswick, makes this town the gateway to the province of Québec. A cross, planted by the Mi’gmaq on a point of the Restigouche River, inspired the name of this municipality (which was originally known as Cross Point).
A lookout at an altitude of 210 metres provides a view of the Appalachians at the mouth of Chaleur Bay, and a wooden boardwalk runs along the Restigouche, a superb salmon river. Birdwatching, hiking and mountain bike trails. Home to historic and cultural sites, including the Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site and Maison Young, a historic house.
