Itinerary to Discover La Mitis, in Gaspésie
Here’s a suggested itinerary to explore La Mitis, in Gaspésie. Located at the gateway to the region, this sector is a great place to stay for a few days and enjoy the seaside. Go for strolls along the beach and savour fresh seafood and other local specialties!
Day 1 – Arrival in Gaspésie
From the moment you arrive in Sainte-Flavie, you can smell the sea air and admire views of the St. Lawrence. Welcome to Gaspésie! Get settled for a few days in one of the many lodging establishments in La Mitis: you can choose from a variety of inns, hotels, cottages, B&Bs and campgrounds in this sector.
Start your stay with a bang by spending the evening at the Le Ketch microbrewery. A pub-style menu and a wide variety of beers await you here. Enjoy a typical evening in Gaspésie on the patio as you savour a good meal and listen to a chansonnier!

Day 2 – Heritage, art and gourmet tour of the Sainte-Flavie area
For your first full day in La Mitis, go on a tour to discover the area’s heritage and culture. A visit to a tithe barn will introduce you to the history of tithing, a type of tax once paid in grain or potatoes. This site also features an exhibition on the military heritage of La Mitis, which was home to the No. 9 Bombing and Gunnery School during the Second World War.
Next, visit exhibitions by various artists at the Galerie d’Art du Vieux Presbytère located in a magnificent heritage building that was once a presbytery. You’ll also want to visit Ateliers Plein Soleil, a weaving economuseum where you’ll find locally designed weavings, quilts and knitwear as well as a selection of local products and crafts.
In the afternoon, get ready to discover tasty finds from the many food and drink artisans found in La Mitis. At the Vieux Moulin meadery, you can savour various honey wines as well as honey and other treats made on the site of a heritage watermill.

Then, visit the Distillerie Mitis facilities to see the still and barrel-aging cellar. You can also taste the gin, rum and vodka made on site at this distillery.
In the evening, enjoy fresh fish and seafood at one of the local dining establishments such as the famous Capitaine Homard restaurant.

Day 3 – A day communing with nature in Métis-sur-Mer
Nestled along the St. Lawrence, Métis-sur-Mer is a particularly picturesque village. Take the time to stroll along the streets to admire the architecture found in this bilingual municipality that first became a resort area over a century ago.
Located between the St. Lawrence and the forest, your next stop is the Silva Herbo herb farm and workshop, which uses cultivated and wildcrafted plants in their products. In their boutique, you’ll find plant-dyed textiles, body care products, herbal teas, spices and more.
Next, visit Parc régional de la rivière Mitis, a regional park covering an area of over 300 km2 where you can enjoy a variety of attractions and activities: conceptual gardens, hiking trails, wildlife observation, fishing, camping, etc. If you’re a golf enthusiast, you’ll want to head to the par-71 18-hole golf course at Club de Golf Boule Rock. Renowned for its beautiful greens, this golf club founded over a century ago offers a superb view of the St. Lawrence from the sixth hole.
In the evening, stop at the Café-Buvette Petit-Métis and enjoy a pre-dinner drink as you admire one of the region’s famous sunsets over the sea.

Day 4 – Discovering the Mitis River
Explore the Mitis River and discover local flora and fauna during a kayaking, canoeing or stand-up paddleboarding adventure with Révolution Plein Air. Many of their activities are suitable for the whole family.
