Description
Matane (which means “beaver pond” in the Mi’gmaq language) owes much to its rich natural resources. Enjoy the town’s warm hospitality along with its urban, industrial, rural and heritage characteristics.
Right downtown, go Atlantic salmon fishing or watch the salmon run at the observation centre. Nearby, a footbridge leads to Parc des Îles where you can relax and enjoy several activities: supervised beach, water play area, pedal boating, canoeing, kayaking, mini-golf, multipurpose path (hiking, cycling and in-line skating), volleyball, basketball, exercisers, outdoor screen and games for children. Also, picnic tables, public art and photo exhibition.
Discover the Complexe culturel Joseph-Rouleau (library and Espaces F gallery) and the Promenade des Capitaines (outdoor photography exhibitions and interactive terminal).
Matane has been awarded four “florets” by Fleurons du Québec, a horticultural classification program.
