Description
Recognized as one of the wonders of Québec and one of the largest gardens in North America, the Reford Gardens (also known as the Jardins de Métis) are a verdant paradise on the banks of the St. Lawrence Estuary. Some 3000 species and varieties of plants, including the famous Himalayan blue poppy, are found in over a dozen gardens. It is also possible to visit the vegetable garden and a museum of gardening tools as well as discover the edible plants and herbs that inspire the chef of the Estevan Lodge restaurant.
Elsie, Through the Eyes of…, the permanent exhibition presented in Estevan Lodge, introduces visitors to the life and times of the gardens’ creator, Elsie Reford. Best known for her gardens, she also had many other interests, from politics and women’s health to art and international affairs. Her involvement in politics and public debate brought her into contact with many of the leading figures of the day. For the first time, new facets of this remarkable woman’s life will be revealed through photographs, objects and personal accounts.
To make the most of your visit, you are invited to the Estevan Lodge restaurant as well as the Le Bufton bistro, both of which offer menus featuring ingredients from the gardens as well as other regional products carefully selected by our chef.
The International Garden Festival presents contemporary gardens designed by landscape architects, artists and architects from around the world.
Wheelchairs and strollers are available free of charge (reservations recommended). Umbrellas are on loan in case of rain, so you can enjoy a different type of visit to the gardens.
